Introduction to Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs)
What is an ETF?
An exchange-traded fund (ETF) is a type of investment fund that is traded on stock exchanges, similar to individual stocks. ETFs are designed to track the performance of a specific index, sector, commodity, or asset class. They provide investors with exposure to a diversified portfolio of underlying assets without having to own each individual asset directly. ETFs combine the benefits of mutual funds, such as diversification, with the flexibility and tradability of stocks. They are structured as open-ended investment funds, allowing investors to buy and sell shares throughout the trading day at market prices. ETFs have gained popularity for their cost efficiency, liquidity, and ability to provide targeted exposure to various market segments.
